Mahalart is a new annual cultural institution, introduced by Λarnaca 2030, aiming to focus attention on the city's neighbourhoods, especially the less enlightened ones, those on the fringes of social and artistic life. Thus, guided and driven by inclusiveness, we open a creative dialogue with the city's neighbourhoods. The events that take place during Mahalart seek to illuminate unseen aspects of the urban environment and give voice and visibility to the forgotten communities of Larnaca, such as Turkomahalas and Ais Yiannis, promoting and serving the great cause of cultural democracy. Through this prism, art is seen as a public good which should be shared equally among citizens without dividing them into privileged and less favoured. The anthropogeography of Larnaka itself functions in mahalart as the raw material of artistic creation on a theatrical, musical and visual level, putting into practice the concept of co-creating, where art is co-created with people for people, not only in the core of social life but also in its periphery.
