With the motto 'Co-Creating Larnaka 2030 Intercommunally', Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot artists came together on July 12, 2023 at Zouhouri Square in Larnaka, with the aim to connect, collaborate and co-create the cultural and artistic programme of Larnaka’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2030. The Mayor of Larnaca, Mr Andreas Vyras, has welcomed the Turkish Cypriot artists at Zouhouri and has reaffirmed the city’s strong commitment to the promotion of peace building and cooperation between the two communities .
Through a two hour workshop, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot artists got to know each other and came up with some first ideas on the development of cooperation projects. Also, we have concluded that this is just the beginning of a long term process and agreed for a second meeting in September in Famagusta this time. Larnaka’s initiative to create a bicommunal working group and its subsequent meetings is supported by the Peacebuilding in Divided Societies programme team of the UNFICYP.
