Mantomahalart

Common Ground

Mantomahalart

The action is curated by visual artist Antonis Tziarridis who grew up and is artistically and professionally active in this neighbourhood. His family home, his workshop and his shop are located there. The aim of the action is to highlight the importance of Mantomahalas for the human history of Larnaka, based on the hospitality, kindness and humanity of the residents of Ais Giannis. From Mantomahalas emerged Mantomahalart, which expresses the merging of personal stories with art, a setting that encourages people to open up their homes and encourage a return to a form of togetherness which has been lost.

Personalities, images and incidents, memories of the past come back to the present day becoming the raw material for visual and cultural creations. The aim of the festival is to shed light on the historic district of Agios Ioannis and its hidden beauty, which is strongly linked to the constant presence of its residents and visitors.

The actions of the festival included art exhibitions, open studios, graffiti, diverse musical selections, street party, a walking tour, a theatrical performance, exhibition of old photos and videos with personal narratives.
