Drumming up Art and Hope

Common Ground

Drumming up Art and Hope was an exciting project of community music and sculpture. Citizens exchanged stories, sounds and recipes in the neighbourhoods of Tsiakkillero, Faneromeni, Ais Giannis and Chrysopolitissa.

On the weekend of September 16 and 17, in the parks of the aforementioned neighbourhoods, participants had the opportunity to create musical compositions using recyclable instruments under the guidance of musicians Maria Kramvi and Andreas Georgiou. Furthermore, they made their own clay sculptures under the guidance of visual artist Irini Constantinou and shared recipes and stories from their lives.

Based on the collected material, a collective work was created which was then exhibited in Zouhouri Square. The action in each neighbourhood concluded with a neighbourhood banquet, a small feast for people to interact and celebrate.

Drumming Up Art and Hope concluded with a big gathering in Zouhouri Square on September 24, where the works created by the residents were exhibited and everyone participated in a concert with musical instruments they had brought from home. Collective music and art from the neighbourhoods of Larnaka was brought and celebrated in the heart of the city!
