Fotos Dimitriou was born in Famagusta, Cyprus, in 1955. Between 1976 and 1983, he studied Porcelain and Ceramics at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and obtained the title of Academic Sculptor, equivalent to a Master of Arts. Since 1983, he has been working in Larnaca, at his art studio.
During his long career, he took part in numerous exhibitions, solo and group, in Cyprus. He has also participated in group exhibitions in Italy, Malta, Belgium, Greece, Australia, France, Germany and Egypt. In 1995 and 1999, he was awarded the third prize at the Pan-Hellenic Ceramic Exhibition.
In 2000, he was selected to participate in the Cairo International Ceramics Biennale and a year later at the Design Biennale in Saint Etienne, France. He composes his work combining different kinds of materials such as clay, glass, bronze, fiberglass, industrial wire and wood with originality and imagination. He deals with a variety of subjects but the main inspiration for his work is the human figure and nature.
Through his work he depicts an open dialogue with people, birds and all kinds of creatures belonging to our or to an imaginary world.
