‘Ploutwnos 71’: Two sold-out performances, a neighbourhood full of memories and emotion!

Common Ground
Ploutwnos 71 – musical street theatre, Mahalart 2026, Larnaka 2030

Mahalart Festival, Larnaka 2030 – European Capital of Culture

The musical street theatre production ‘Ploutwnos 71’ premiered with great success on Saturday 17 October. The show is being presented as part of Mahalart 2026 by the organisation of Larnaka 2030, European Capital of Culture.

The first two performances, on 17 and 18 October, attracted an impressive turnout, with the audience responding with emotion and enthusiasm to a unique invitation to return to Larnaka in the 1980s, to the memories and timeless values of the neighbourhood.

On the very street where the stories of the play were born, the courtyards and street parties came to life once more, along with the summers that seemed magical, the weddings celebrated in streets, the romances, the losses, the dreams and the hopes of people from another era.

At the heart of the production lies the dynamic coexistence of theatre and live music. The performances, the theatrical dialogue, the musical compositions and the soundscapes weave together into a unified dramatic experience, where laughter meets emotion, nostalgia converses with the present, and personal memory is transformed into a collective experience. The warm response from the audience confirmed the power of this artistic encounter, which succeeds in bridging eras, people and experiences.

Through ‘Ploutwnos 71’, Mahalart’s philosophy finds a particularly vivid and meaningful expression. The return to Larnaka in the 1980s is not merely a nostalgic look back at the past but serves as a catalyst for a contemporary reflection on the value of closeness, solidarity, coexistence and human contact. It is an invitation to rediscover all those things that transform mere coexistence into a meaningful community and the city into a place of intimacy, care and collective memory. A beneficial and comforting Common Ground.

For those who did not have the chance to attend the first two evenings, there are just two performances left: on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October 2026, at 20:00.
