The eyeglasses are made of dark brown, semi-transparent resin in the 60s and belonged to Nikos G. Demetriou. Nikos G. Demetriou (1920–1981) was a prominent Cypriot businessman and public figure from Larnaca.

He studied commerce in Athens and London, then returned to Cyprus to run his family’s commercial enterprises.

In public life, he held several important roles: he was Minister of Commerce and Industry, Deputy Foreign Minister, and later served as Cyprus’s ambassador to the United States.

On the social side, he was deeply engaged in civic organizations: he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank of Cyprus, president of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce, and he led development institutions such as the Cyprus Development Organization.

He was also very active in Rotary. Moreover, in 1973 he founded the “Δημητρίειο Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο” (Dimitrieio Cultural Centre) in his family’s old residence on Demetriou Street. This cultural centre became a model venue for Larnaca’s and Cyprus’s cultural life, hosting events and bringing cultural vibrancy to the local community.

Nikos G. Demetriou is remembered as a civic-minded leader who used his resources and influence to support social, cultural, and economic development in Cyprus.
