The dark brown glass pharmaceutical bottle comes from the pharmacy of Stefanos Stavrides, chemist and druggist, who established his business in the second half of the 1930s. The pharmacy was located on Demetriou Street, next to the family home of the Demetriou family, and for many years it was one of the area’s well-known landmarks.

His nephew, Giorgos Likourgos, also worked in the pharmacy; he later distinguished himself as an Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus and served as Mayor of Larnaka for ten years. Stefanos’s son, Phivos Stavrides, also worked there. He later became a pharmacist himself, as well as a writer, poet, and prominent collector of archival material, founding the Larnaka Archives that bear his name.

This particular bottle contained Gum Acacia powder (acacia gum or gum arabic), a substance with multiple medicinal properties. Gum acacia was used for:

– Lipid-lowering potential
– Antioxidant activities
– Supporting kidney and liver function
– Enhancing immune function by modulating inflammatory mediators

Beyond its pharmaceutical value, the bottle is today a valuable artifact of the history of health and social life in Larnaka in the 20th century, connected with three generations of people who dedicated their lives to science, public service, and cultural memory.
